ZECHARIAH 11:13
“And God said unto me, Cast it unto the potter, the goodly price that I was prized at by them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them unto the potter, in the house of God.”
The book of Zechariah was written around 480-450 B.C. This particular verse is blatantly fulfilled (as documented in Matthew 27:3-10) when Judas tries to return the 30 pieces of silver he took in exchange for turning Jesus over to the Pharisees. Judas literally threw the silver coins down into the temple, and they were then collected and use to purchase a potter's field as a burial place for strangers.
Sharing Jesus: As one of the many predictions that outline the things that would take place in Jerusalem the week of Passover and the crucifixion of Jesus, these scriptures have a bit of sadness tied to them. The Messiah was to be betrayed by a close friend, and Judas fulfilled this prophesied role in history. Ask your friend if they've ever been betrayed by a friend? How did that feel? Jesus being all man, yet all God at the same time still experienced the heartbreak of being betrayed by a friend. He understands how we feel when these relationship traumas occur. But He also said that we should "take heart, for (He) has overcome the world!" (John 16:33). Jesus loves you and can give you the peace that surpasses all understanding!
